tranny lube
« on: December 04, 2006, 04:13:56 PM »
So has anyone found anything better than redline for our transmissions?  Sure its great at the track, but in the winter it just sucks.  I know  Stefan looked at some elf but since I haven't heard anything I'll assume it wasn't earth shattering.

I've only hear rave reviews on Elf engine lubricant.  I haven't heard anything regarding trans or diff lube from them.

I have been running the Redline in my 95 S6 for  10yrs and it is so so in the winter.  People are saying go back to the OEM Audi stuff.  I would like to try the Motul Gear 300 like I put in my STi but I need to see if it is ok for the Audi center diff.

So far not impressed with the Elf gear lube. As far I can tell the Audi oem is the best so far, which I think it's Castrol.

I have always used OEM figured that would be the sure thing, glad to hear that Stefan agrees.

other than stiff shifts when cold, I've had no problems with Redline lube.

Forgot to add...  Red Line makes my second gear shift grind until warm!  Gotta shift that one easy for the first 10 minutes or so.

I'm still trying to figure out which stuff to use when I decide to flush my trans and rear diff.

I need to take care of this as well, but I am going to be a wimp and wait until spring, although it is warm now.

Any other options out there? Royal Purple, or any other "miracle" lube???
