'01 A4 tach acting weird

I just bought my first Audi & my tach seems to get up in the 7k range when I'm driving normal, then it comes back to normal when I stop & sit at idle. Anyone else have this problem or know how I can fix it?

Welcome to the forum.  Sorry, but I have no idea.  I would have thought it would come from the crank position sensor, but if that was on the fritz your car wouldn't run.

does it spike up to 7k real flat and hold there solid, or does it hover around 7k?  also, does it work fine until a certain RPM and then it jumps -- or will it jump up at any random time?

It varies, sometimes it hovers around the 7k mark & sometimes it's normal. Just weird.
