93 S4 random squeaking/chirping noise

Sounds like it's coming from the hyd. pump. Is this a sign that the pump is soon to fail?

Hyd. pump as in power steering, high and in front of the engine? Then yes. that's what mine sounded like when it failed. Scared the crap out of me because I'd just had a new water pump fail and I thot it was that again, tearing up the serpentine belt, but no, just the PS pump.

Just curious, what happened when the hyd pump failed? ruptured hoses? shredded belt? fluid everywhere? just asking so I know what to expect when my hyd pump goes.

I'd be most worried about metal shards wreaking the rack- that would be disastrous.
