HID Headlight adjustment

(1/1)

Bluefool:
Back when I had front body repair work done on my 01 A4 1.8T a couple years ago, when the car came back the left front headlight was aimed a bit high.  Eventually I went to adjust it and was puzzled by the lack of adjustments, like, with a screwdriver.   It has the fancy-schmancy HID lights, so it has auto-leveling crapola.  So, how does one adjust it properly?

On a side note, I looked at it recently (again) because I had to replace the $$ bulb around Xmas to replace the bulb and broke a plastic mounting tab!  Yes, cold weather plus 10+ year old plastic doesn't equal happiness.  All I did was pull on it to see if the headlight was loose as I was taking it apart.

I think they sell tab repair kits.

When I got the GTI the headlights were aimed very low.  My car has the auto level, but there is still an adustment for side to side and up and down.   You can also adjust via Vagcom.

I would like to find a nice flat area to do the whole adjustment procedure by the book.

Bluefool:
Yes, I thought there was a VAG com thingy that had to be done.  The Bentley repair manual was a bit vague on the whole thing.

My brother has a VAG com, so I guess I have to wait until I see him next.

As far as the tab, you know, it was just a superfluous extra.  One tab holds the headlight in OK, ;-)

Lance Kragenbrink:
I believe you are right, you will need vag com to aline your headlamps.
