Everyone get the sunroof drain letter from Audi?
« on: May 11, 2010, 08:09:58 AM »
I didn't realize clogged drains were a problem.  Then I saw you're supposed to do this every 40K, and noticed I was a bit overdue!   So I opened my sunroof for the first time in a couple years.  My drains were clear, but I had a bit of a time getting the sunroof closed.  It would get to the very end and then back up.  Eventually I closed it little by little and it worked.  Good thing since it's a bit wet today.

I read that too.  A buddy of mine got one for his Jetta too.  No leaking issues here.  Good thing too seeing as I'm over 165k.

I got mine.  This was an issue on a fair number of B6s. There was a earlier letter (about two years ago) asking owners to bring them in for immediate inspection. Now it appears they are adding this as part of the preventive maintenance schedule.

Is this for only cars with sunroofs, or all B5s, because I got the notice yesterday as well and my car does not have a sunroof.

So how / where do you clean, from the top? Blow air thru, or a wire? Tx.

please read this from a law guy on another forum...

"I took a closer look at the settlement agreement.

The only benefit available to Audi owners is the possible reimbursement of any expenses for repair of damage caused by blockage of the sunroof and/or plenum drains and repair of those components. There is no modification to the cars that will be performed by Audi. They now require additional inspections though a change of the maintenance schedule, but that doesn't mean that Audi will pay for it.

Therefore, unless one has a claim for reimbursement, they should definitely opt-out of the class so as to not lose any potential rights that they might have including to later claim for undiscovered and future damage.

To opt-out, send a postcard (28 cents postage) postmarked no later than 15 June 2010 to:

Water Ingress Administrator
P.O. Box 2298
Faribault, MN 55021-2433

Here is an example of what the postcard should say:

>>>
Gentlemen,

I wish to be excluded from the class. My vehicles are:

2000 Audi S4 VIN WAUDD68D5YA000001
2002 Audi allroad VIN WAUED24B5YN000001

Sincerely,

/s/
Mickey Mouse
1675 N Buena Vista Drive
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830
<<<

I don't think I could make this any easier than this.

Incidentally, the agreement provides that if more than 5% of owners exclude themselves then VW/Audi can withdraw from the deal. VW/Audi's settlement money is meant to buy it a release from all liabilities due to their design defect. If they don't get that, then no point in paying up. :-) "

David- I just poured a cup of water down them, and watched it come out where the front door hinges are. After never being cleaned they were fine. Otherwise you have to use some compressed air, but there's always a chance you could damage something, so test them first.

Way too easy. Will do.

I read that you should use an old speedo cable or some weed whacker twin to run down the drains and un plug them if necessary.  You can run the line UP the drains as well.
