One great new feature with our PM system is the "Label" feature. For anyone who has used gmail, this is basically the same system that uses - skip below to get the details.
For those who have not, here's how it works.
One can add 'labels' to a message - 1 to 1000 - that are essentially categories or descriptors. A label might be for example, "injector project stuff". At first glance they can appear very similar to the traditional concept of a folder. The neat part is though, that each message can have more than one label, unlike the folder system. So, if you want to see all the messages marked with a given label, messages #345 and #456 may come up. Then if you want to see all the messages marked with a different label, messages #664 and #456 come up. Notice that message #456 came up twice. This adds a great amount of flexibility and makes managing large numbers of messages much easier.
Great,
how does it work?1. Click on the My Messages link on the top nav bar.
2. On the left side of the page find the "Preferences" heading.
3. Find the "manage labels" link.
This page lets you add labels, rename current labels, and delete unused labels. There are no default labels created for each user, so you will have to start from scratch. Go ahead and add a label, whatever you like. Now go back to your PM "Inbox" [Tech Note: messages that appear in the Inbox actually have an Inbox label - they are not in an Inbox folder] - and find the table that contains all your PM's author, subject, etc...
To label a message, check the boxes on the right column of this table of the message(s) you want to label. Then select from the dropdown (at the bottom right corner of the table) the label you want to "apply" to the(each of the) checked message(s).
Voila. Now to see only messages marked with a given label, select the label from the left nav "Labels" heading.
Cool beans
