The starting point:

As most know, my poor CQ isn't the most reliable quattro roaming Detroit, although, thankfully she has never left me walking. I'm planning on working out many of the little problems over the winter and I'll post updates as they come along. With that said, I'll start the list.

Poor acceleration - possible bad #3 injector
constant understeer problem - needs rearsway bar
lack of proper cabin heating - I have no idea on this one
poor curb appeal - paint is in bad bad shape and my front bumper has the common CQ cracks
ITS SLOW - *cough* turbo *cough*
I'm sure there is more but it's late

I'm slotted to visit Stefan on Friday to install the 034 injector upgrade and fix a minor, but still annoying, coolant leak. I'll keep updating with the progress....stay tuned.

Ordered the 034 injectors today, should have them on Thursday. I'm totally geeked about my car running right!!!

well Stefan and I installed the new 034 injector kit which was an absolute breeze. The car idles remarkably better, my misfire is gone and I got +4mpg on the way home. The bad news is that we still haven't solved the problem of the car going into limp mode. I'm pulling the codes tonight but I suspect the knock sensors to be at fault (hopefully just a torque will do!).

Big props to the 034 guys, I can't emphasize how much smoother my car feels right now. John, Tim, you need to look into it. Best $350 I've spent on the car so far

Way to go! I am glad to hear of the success. I don't know if I want to put that much money into the car, especially if I am selling it next year. I will definitely consider it though, especially after I see the results first hand with your car.

Well Stefan has been great helping me with my car. I took it back to him on Friday to have a closer look at problems I'm still having. Here is what we've found:

Heat - with the new tstat installed the car is heating better now. I am however having issues with interior heat still. If left to idle the interior will heat up mildly. When driving the heat goes away and the car blows cold. After and exhaustive check of the system, Stefan came up with the heater core being blocked which seems like a logical conclusion.

Knock sensors - they are torqued and still causing issues. I'll have to replace them as soon as the dealer can order the correct ones

Idle - my idle was high after Stefan cleaned the throttle body. The fix? a simple plug with a hole in it to restrict vaccuum. I had to readjust the idle screw cause my car was stalling initially but that has been sorted out for the most part.

more things we found....water pump screw broke which is also the bolt that holds the PS pump adjuster.

One cool thing I did was clip the speed sensor for the rear diff. Now I can drive all the time with my rear diff locked. Can't wait for snow!

Knock sensors are easy to replace, or should be on the 7A.

Unsure about the heat issue, but you mentioned maybe a clogged heater core. Good place to start if the tstat is new.

Lets just drop a V8 in there and be done, eh?

Interesting that its that easy to permanently lock the rear diff -
I'm really curious about the interior heat problem though - I'm still thinking it has to do with the heater flap

When you're stationary its heating the air around the flap, hence heat, when you start moving cold air is moving through and bypasing the heater core straight to the cabin - That's my guess.

Does the CC head have diagnostic outputs like the 100's?

Castle, I told you about the wire trick last year. 'Bout time you did that mod. It's basically a defeat of the auto-unlock after 15 mph function. Bummer about the clogged heater core. I'd try a reverse flush on the heater core and see what's up. Sure there's not a problem with the heater valve?

ya Ingo but you didn't tell me which wire to snip. Plus no snow means who needs a modded diff?? I'm getting ready for this year.

Sam it very well could be the flap but the diagnostic isn't really helping me right now. Its that crappy Caddy design and the values for the flap don't make any sense to me. I'm still researching the whole thing and hopefully I'll find something that'll help me diagnose the prob.

I'm REALLY happy today, filled up for the first time with the new injectors and my milage to empty after 19 miles is over 400 miles!!!1!! First time I've ever seen that (no highway miles yet). I'm trully geeked about that one since I used to get around 340 a tank.

Would've been happy to show you. Lemme see -- was it the blue wire wih white stripe under the rear seat? Same thing can be done on the 200q20v. Never did it myself, though.

Update:

Spent a few hours with Stefan yesterday and I'm happy to say I've got a) heat and b) full use of my rpm's. Turns out knock sensors are an intricate part of the engine management system

So, 034 injectors and knock sensors = 25mpg!! Next up....rear sway bar.

Hook it to a cable, then to your steering wheel. Donuts to the left for warm air, donuts to the right for cold.
