Mod tool
« on: February 20, 2010, 07:29:35 PM »
I think everyone would agree that vag-com is a great tool. I am on a budget and to get vag-com is about $250. I just want to fix an auto leveling error thats showing up due to my new projector headlight install. The new headlights dont have auto level. I have come across some other tools that sound good and are cheaper. Vag405 scanner and v- checker pro, What do you guys think? here is a link to the v- checker. Thanks for any input guys.

I've thought about an ebay vag-com, but from what I have read those cables can be a hit or miss. And the shareware is limited, so I might not be able to do what I need done. I know I get just get a cable and then by a registered version of the vag-come software for a $100 but thats how much the v-checker pro costs. A lot of people that I have read about that have bought a cable and bought registered software have trouble with the cable. I just want to make one mod at the moment I agree vag-com would be the way to go for all kinds of mods, but that a pretty big investment for me at the moment for one mod if I can do virtually the same kinds of things with say a v-checker pro ot vag405. I donno just wondering if any one has had any experience with the v-checker or know if I can shut off the self leveling code with shareware.

Hey guys, just wanted to give an update and maybe help somebody out in the future. Well I ordered the v-checker and it does seem to do a lot of what the vag-com can but it is much more confusing to use...almost a pain till you get the hang out of it. Also depending what you are trying to do or system you are trying to get into you may have to turn the ignition on or off, despite what the manual says. Very frusturating and a lot of guess and check work. Well it has definetly been a long road and a lot a research all in the name of modding and getting a cool ride out of it, lol. So he are my result and conclusions...If you are on a budget and want to do some tuning and mods the v-checker will work if you have patience to figure the thing out. As for the xenon headlights to drl lights and the self leveling, this is my conclusion to that..vag-com and v-checker will work to remove the self leveling code or the kicker and my final solution pull the number 10 fuse out! lol :P
