DRL Headlights
« on: February 15, 2010, 02:07:32 PM »
I wanted to update the look of my car a bit so I bought and installed R8 style projectors, has any one else tried this mod? I did a little bit of research before my purchase but I must admit, it was more of an inpulse buy lol. They look great a little disapointed that they were not xenon but not a biggy. However since they are projectors they do not have an auto leveling system and a code has appeared. Thinking about buying the vag-com software and cable to erase the code but wanted to see if any one else has installed DRL's and has any comments or suggestion on procedure, brands...etc

They look fine to me!  But if the were xenon, (which the R8 doesn't even have) I'm sure that they would cost A LOT more.

The R8 doesn't have xenons? wtf?

From your profile pic they look sweet.
VAGCOM will pay for itself pretty fast if you own your car, so its probably a good buy.  Otherwise, if you're close to someone on the board with a vagcom we can probably help you out.

I think there are DRL's with Xenon and w/out the part that lights up during the day time is always going to be led but the high and low beams can either be projectors or xenon hid or if your headlights are projectors and can support the hid, upgrading is always a possibility... I am wondering if I buy an off brand connection cable and download the shareware version of vag-com, will that be enough to turn off the auto leveling code that being thrown? I do agree though even though the vag-com is costly, it would be a good investment.

The lower strip of lighting from the factory, and like the ones you just added are LED's.  But yes there are xenon DRL's by other manufactures.

But personally, I'm not too keen on the idea of xenon DRL's.  I don't like the idea of them switching on and off without my consent.  That's what burns out those really expensive ballasts out sooner.
