This is my on-going project that will probably never be "done". This is an 81 German-spec car. It was brought into the US by a Chicago Audi dealer in 1981, 2 years prior to the cars being sold here. A year later, it was sold to a guy in Michigan. Somehow there was a title issued but the car was never converted to US specs

So it has the higher HP engine, no safety bumpers, no CAT, no heavy door beams and all metric instruments.
When I bought the car it had already had a number of modifications performed by Light Performance Works in Midland, MI. Guy Light was an avid rally driver/builder and, at one time, was building Golf rally cars for VWofA. Anyway, in the early 90's he built and installed a roll bar, gauges, map light, new turbo, modified ECU, Eibach springs, Koni shocks, and large driving lights.
The car sat in a warehouse for several years prior to me purchasing. So there was a strong mildew odor inside that simply could not be be eliminated. This is what made me decide to carry the modifications made by Light a few steps further.
I decided to make it a rally car similar to the 1981 Gruppe 4 factory cars. These early cars were very close to the road-going versions, unlike the A2 and subsequent versions. I completely gutted the interior and installed race seats, lightweight door panels, etc., all mimicking the factory cars.
