Damn the Dealership Service (Farmington Suburban Audi)
« on: July 27, 2008, 08:51:48 PM »
 >:(  I gotta say first off I am a lucky being associated with Motor City Audi forum.  It is through this forum that I Stephan became my mechanic exlusively.  I posted a note out here last week about the 2000 A6 not starting.  To try to save towing costs, I took it to the above dealer.

He said (I think his name was Joe, but don't quote me on that and besides it doesn't matter)there is a significant problem with the vehicle and to really understand what is going on with it they need to tear the engine down ("maybe a bent rod").  Just looking for the problem would cost $1,100.  I asked the service guy, let's call him "Joe" to ballpark the cost, if it was too high (as if 1100 was not)I may have to part it out.  He said it would likely be between $3,000 and $9,000.  I just about sh-t.  I said to back away from the vehicle and keep your hands where I can see them.  I had it shipped to Stephan at GMW.

We have not spoken directly yet but he left me a message with the following problem:  O2 sensors bad and temp sensor bad (the car thought it was 20 degrees below zero.)

Moral of the story: Beg borrow or steal to get or keep your car out of the dealer (especially that one) and get it to Stephan.

Not surprised sadly...These situations occur all the time. Stefan always saves the day.  As JM says, I worry the day Stefan retires...
I'm stocky.

Yeah, that is going to suck...  Maybe we can convince Stefan to train his son?  :)

BTW, AoRH is my first dealership choice.  Sorry Carlos.

Seriously, who DOESN't have a story like this.

Mine is courtesy of Fred Lavery.......I had a chirp like squeek that would occur when I hit a bump or would travel on rough pavement.  I had it to the dealership 5 times if I had it there once.  They could replicate the noise but only while driving, making it difficult to pinpoint.  Finally they decide it's in the intstrument panel.  I agrue and tell them I think it's outside the car as it's louder with the window down (seem obvious, but hey I'm not certified right).  So they tell me the only way to diagnose the problem is to pull the IP and that they can't guarantee they'll find it or that there won't be more squeeks and rattles after such a huge undertaking.  Obviously I'm like "yeah, thanks but no thanks".  Long story short, I find the root cause by dumb luck a few weeks later.......and it's.......squeeky hood latch.  A little WD-40 and I haven't heard it in over 2 years.

The dealership's service guys scare the crap out of me.

I had my car into Audi RH for the second ignition switch recall, and when I got it back I had this rattle coming from behind the steering wheel somewhere.  It was hard to replicate, and I could never make it go away by pressing on anything.  I finally decided I had enough and took off the steering wheel.  There were 3 screws that hold the trim onto the column and they were loose.  That further made me dislike taking my car places, and don't even get me started about the Pontiac dealer where my wife took her car....

that's y i haven't fixed the avant yet.  not only does the water pump and timing belt done, but a few other, major things need to be done too and as bummed as i am about it not being on the road, nobody's workin on it, til I can afford to have Stephan do it up right.

big plans for the avant!!!    ;D

don't even joke of Stephan retiring or worse....that ain't even funny.  Stephan better be around forever.  Long live Stephan & GMW!!!!   I pledge my allegiance.....lol,  well not quite, but....
