I guess I have a pretty sh-tty taste in my mouth from my last trip to the dealership. I just feel strongly that if I purchase something, I should have the freedom to take it where I want to whomever I want. The problem with this key thing is that once it runs out you cannot use the product you purchased and you have no choice to take it anywhere but Audi. So it seem to me to be a lack of choice issue.
I see your point about security but I am not a huge fan of the government listening in on my phone conversations either regardless of whether or not I am doing something illegal. The response of "I have nothing to hide" encourages handing over personal freedoms.
So if you're against freedom then so be it. Really just kidding I do see your point and we can agree to disagree.
I really don't see the correlation between our rights as citizens and Audi security keys. I think of it this way. The way your making it sound is that any product purchased should be given full disclosure to the customer. Its a slippery slope, if that is what your saying than trade secrets would pretty much be a thing of the past. If Audi hands out security information, not only would that compromise any Audi owner out there but give other car manufacturers the ability to see just how they do it.
I have never liked the dealerships and can see your point of view however the alternative just isn't going to happen.
