Autohaus - Royal Oak
« on: July 03, 2008, 02:08:03 PM »
Who has dealt with them?  Are they good?  Recommend?  Looking at some A4's they have on the lot.  How is their service department and warranties?

Thanks in advance everyone.  Happy 4th, too!

I have known Jerry (the owner) for a long time.  He's honest, but doesn't know these cars as well as he thinks he does.  Their main business model is to go to southern auctions and buy cars 5-10 at a time.  This means the vehicles have somewhat unknown histories, and allot don't have cold weather packages.  His service dept. is old school, but expirenced.  And he won't sell a car with known problems or like I said, he'll be honest.  You can negotiate him down, but he does need to get a margin because all his money is on the front end...

Cool, thanks.  I met with Jerry and he seemed pretty straight to the point and trustworthy.  Had Carfax's for what I was looking at, so that was pretty cool.  I'm probably going to deal with them, but I wanted to make sure there were not any horror stories coming out of there such as what I hear about Howard Cooper, etc.  I appreciate the response!

I have known Jerry since the mid 80's, they have always been very honest, bought a couple cars from him, he always made sure they were in great running shape.
as Jason said, they buy cars from Auctions, mostly lease returns and resell them up here.
they have some good mechanics that have been there forever.
good luck on the new purchase

I bought my car from him 8 years ago now, and he was very cool about me test driving a lot of cars by myself.  Took it back to have the cruise control fixed under their warranty, and they took care of it no problem.   Would I go back for another car- sure if they had what I wanted.  I know quite a few people who go there for more than 1 car too.

I too bought my A4 from them about 5 yrs ago. Very easy to deal with but overall a decent experience seeing that this was my first purchase on my own.

isn't every trip to Howard Cooper a horror story? I live in Ann Arbor and I'd rather drive to Toledo than deal with Howard Cooper any more.

On topic, a friend and I test drove a couple B5 S4's at AutoHaus in Royal Oak, the one we drove had bad turbos, Jerry was very honest, and was VERY willing to bargain. In the end we ended up going a different direction for the car we were looking for.   They do always seem to have quite the large selection there, I wouldn't hesitate to go back.
