It could:  It might not fit right.  Audi seems to be notorious for switching suppliers and part specs at random.  Even the same brand can not fit right if it's not the right part for the right car. 

There might be some interchangability, but (especially with Audi), I'd double check beforehand.  I know of people that bought the supposed right part and looked the same, but when they went to put it in, that sucker wouldn't fit.

That is what I'm afraid of. I have the alternator going out and need to get a replacement, but I don't want to tear it down before I replace the part.
