Well I guess the Lehman will be going into James Bufkin's Rally car  :icon_rr: so it will be just a few miles from my house and drive on the same tracks

YESSSSS!!!! The deal has been done. James Bufkin is now the proud owner of that SB 20V Quattro engine. I really shopped the engine around. I wanted to find a good owner for it. After reading and checking out his web-site I realized he was the perfect person for it. My worst nightmare was to sell it and the find it on E-bay a week later. Or sell it to some hack who wanted to put it in some crap project car. There were a few others who ether dragged their feet or just didn't need it until their car hand grenanded. I sent him an e-mail to see if he was interested, and bingo! He's happy and so am I.

Good luck with your build...sorry if I hi-jacked your thread.

Some day you need to come down here and see YOUR motor in one very special AUDI

Well here is the driving log for the first 2000 miles!!!:
Shawn's S6 Driving Log cross post from texasaudigroup
There is so little I5 stuff that I figured I would share my 95 S6's rebuild break in.

Here is my log documenting the progress and issues that arise as I put miles back on the car.

March 20:Odometer reads 188498 miles I picked the car up and drove it to its new home. Since the car will not go in and out of my driveway without scraping I have decided that it will be parked at work in a warehouse! Not taking the car about 3k rpm it seems slugish that said it cruises very well at 70mph.

March 21: Picked up the car this am to put more miles on it!

Drove it to the house where a flock of birds took a community dump on it. Excellent excuse to drive to the car wash!!!

Cleaner we went to TARGET where it leaked a little anti freeze. Looked like it came from a clamp or hose near the radiator. (Crossing fingers hoping it is not the radiator).
Went to the omlettry for a late Lunch and to park it back at the warehouse!

Put about 70 miles on today as fast as 85mph and with max boost around 15lbs.
Took it up some steep hills in my neighborhood in 3rd gear to build up some presure and it held it.
Getting used to a turbo charger again....nothing, nothing, and then oh wait not yet must put miles on the car!

I love the stromung, it is louder than the S6ock exhaust but more quiet than the S4 V8 I have!

March 22: 30 More miles today a mix of city, and Mopac got a couple of cel's while shifting. One of the experts thinks it could be the O2 sensor. Monther and I will check the blink codes tomorrow!

March 23: More miles today...went up 183 and visited with Monther to read the code ...2342 O2 sensor...We look at it and Monther says wrong one in there ...it should be 3 wire not just 1!!! He had an extra one and sure enough the car is driving better. So far over 100 miles and no trouble so far. Still wondering if it has as much power as I have been planning for. Mental note I probably should probably get it up on a dyno asap after break in.

March 25: Really getting the itch to put the right foot to the floor, but I wont and the car is driving nicely in the lower rpm ranges. Went to the Rudy's lunch and visited with something like 20 other Audi's :) The new and proper O2 sensor has improved low end driving and the cel has not come on again.

March 26: Had the opportunity to drive the car up and down 2222 a few times today and I did so gingerly but it did well and I was pleased with the handling of the car with the rear sway bar. I discovered that Jimmaaay has bought the remaining wheels from the guy in North Carolina ...truely these cars are becoming more and more a like because we both have awesome taste :)  I now have contact with a guy who has the same exact RS2 tune as I do with the exception of the turbo. So I will be excited to start comparing info once I have gotten through the break in stage.

March 27 and 28: 188757...Took the car home for the weekend and got to drive it around quite a bit. Bonus..the Stromung is up higher than the oem exhaust was so no scraping going into my driveway is possible!  Putting some casual but very hilly miles on the car. Got my first accurate mpg reading and it was 17.56 mpg. That number is right where I would have expected it to be considering the type of driving etc and a number very similar to past data.

March 29: Still shy of 500 miles, but I am putting my foot into it a little bit more and am starting to feel some of the power I hope to find in this set up. Erika and a couple of neighbors told me it is loud! Okay then :). I have pritty much decided to park the 04S4 until this has been broken in right I figured that it just needs to be done! Knocking on wood, so far the motor has not skipped a beat.  I have decided to put Kumho XS 245/35/17's on the new wheels...unless Jimmy finds something better to copy, but I'll probably wait until May because April is gonna be a busy month at work and with the kids schools. I am enjoying driving this car and have so far found everything to work properly with the exception of the F$%*#@$ radio, but who needs that when there is a $1400 sound system underneath the car.

March 30-31 More miles putting my foot into it a little more, car is driving well but does not have as much low end power as I feel it should have, time will tell and maybe we will have to get a different turbo.. passed 188888 miles this am doesn't look to bad for a car that has driven that far!!!

April Fools: Still driving it, bought new master and slave sounds like XXX stuff but it is not :(  the clutch is really low to the floor and it might be a wise time to replace these parts, that said the car is driving well and rounded 189000 miles/ (500 miles)/. Got yelled at for putting my foot into it too much so I am back to total granny driving.

April 2-3: 189130 Been driving it a lot the last couple of days. Today the kids and I went out to Matt's for the shock install day and took the nice route back home via Lime Creek Road that was good for some miles and all told the car is running well. Before the car broke I had bought some new wiper arms and today I added new Bosch Blades for hopefully worry free driving in the rain.

April 5: It is probably a GOOD thing I ordered the slave and master cylinders from our State Event sponsor ECS, because the clutch is inching its way closer and closer to the floor and I think I will be parking her until the parts are in and replaced! Other than that it is driving well :)

April 8: Finally got the, "it has shipped" email from ECS... No driving until the new parts are on the car :(

April 11: Still no parts!!! and the next two weeks will be rather busy at work.

April 20: On the road again put another 40 miles on it today!!! :)

April 22: 189336 Got a check engine light today!!!
1231 (Blink Fault Code), 00281 VAG1551/2 Fault Code Number (S4/S6 with AAN engine Only)
Vehicle Speed Sensor (G68),
Open circuit or short circuit, speed sensor malfunctioning
Symptom: A/C compressor does not shut off during wide open throttle in 1st gear
Other than that the car is driving well!!! :)

April 26 189455: Within 50 miles of the 1000 mile oil change car is running great....I cannot wait to get the first oil change!!! Might do it on Wednesday up at Roger Beasley!!!!

May 4 189622: Got the 1200 mile oil change today....and things are looking good. Now comes some more testing comparing etc.. I wish I could find a place where the Police would not come after me, because all the fun starts at about 70 mph!
Seeing 23-24 lbs of boost so far, but everytime I get on it I have to back off again due to traffic or speed :(

Driving log Part Deux
May 5: 189729 ...Getting on it much more!

The good news: 1) No blown off hoses, 2) there is power 3) Seen 25 psi 4) Still love driving the car 5) Everything works the way it should.

The bad news: 1) I have not seen the full potential (because I would be writing this from jail) 2) Radio SUX Jimmy some day maybe you can help me with that. 3) It is a turd until 4k rpm do you know how long it takes to get to 4000 revolutions per minute?....but passing from 80 to 150 mph probably is very quick.

I will install a camera so I can video tape the Speedometer, Tachometer and Boost gauges during acceleration, this way I can study the freaking things and not sit and guess at what I think I saw as I am looking for breif moments of turbo blasts

May 7: 189889 More good and bad news! Two cars same tune different result.
The good: 1) Swapped ECU with Monther and his ECU made my car run no better or worse than my own ECU. 2) We found a couple of clamps that we replaced 3) My vacume at idle was between 14 and 15psi without the ac running which is where it should be! 4) The car idles, sounds, drives great.....so back to the bad..
@idle

The bad: 1) Monthers car has a KICK that mine just does not have. 2) I will be looking for a needle in a haystack but Monther pointed me toward a few areas he thought I should start with. N75 valve(Monther gave me his old one) and the BPV after that the wastegate diaphram and maybe a 1.9 bar spring. 3) If those things don't make it go faster it will be time to look for a different turbo, possibly a K26/GT3071 a friend of mine has that setup and it might be worth the try.

May 9: 189994 Finally getting some power and the Stromung sound. Turned down the wastegate 5 revolutions and there was a market improvement. Still need to find some more power peak boost is less than I think it should be. More later now I need to go hit 190K.

on Lime Creek where else!

Finally I am getting the POWAAAARRRRRR

May 10: 190094 Easily kept up with one of these: 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible  (0-60 mph 5.2 sec). But who knows how hard the guy tried! Running solid, probably time to check on some of the hoses!

Starting to contemplate what size tires to put on the 17x9 wheels 255/40/17 might work!

May 11: 190140 Good news ...Yes this is a car that has potential and it is about where I would want it. Just took care of another pretender in a nice new Japanese sports car :). I think they get scared when they hear the turbo and exhaust note come alive!!! it is quite something :).

Bad news I think the fubared swaybar ruined the speedsensor so now my low speed braking is a little weird (as in abs comes on). Ordered new speedsensors from Shokan bummer but it had to be done.

May 14: 190282... I am having a hard time guessing at how fast this car is now, but I am guessing that it is close to where it should be. Erika punched her 300hp/295 lbstq 4.2 for a little while and I think that doing better than keeping up was an indication that things were about right.  The torque curve of the V8 is sooooo different that it is hard to really know and who knows how hard she tried etc....I have no doubts that I would have been quicker as the rpms increased. Reality is that 3 and 4 gears are all this car needs for every day driving ;) and the sweet spot is above 3krpm and it is sweet.
So far no blown off hoses and everything appears to be right on ie. the ecu, injectors, exhaust and turbo are good matches in spite of my early doubts.

Coming up:
1) Fix the swaybar, 2)  speed sensor, 3) Clean up the interior and make the boost gauge permanent and install the light in it.
4) Jasper has some slightly used track tires in the 255/40/17 size that I have bought and will use to see if they will fit the car with the RS2 style wheels I bought.

That was a long road to recovery for the S6, but it looks like it's running pretty good now. Glad to hear it's back on the road!
