Time to jump on the projects forums and add a few updates to Project 20VQTRO. My last post I was about to embark on a track day at Gingerman. Before I went I had the genius idea of gutting the rear end of the car. I figured it was the cheapest performance mod I can do right?

Anyway at the track all went well, had a great time and the car held together. Not the fastest car out there, but lot's of fun for me! The only casualties were tires. The surface at Gingerman as I am sure a few of you know is pretty rough. Attached are a few pics of the Coupe in action. My helmet in those photos looks like a giant gum-ball . . . LOL it's actually a Snell rated moped helmet.

So the big progress on the coupe is paint. The car went into Maaco .... I settled on the 400.00 "Presidential Special" package. After body work my bill came to about 500 bucks. Before I dropped it off I spent an evening pulling off as many trim pieces as I could so that I could paint them in tandem. I think it looks great! It even took a trophy at last weekends Motorstadt. THANKS for that!  ;D

So whats next? Waterford track day early next month. I've purchased a nice set of "R" compound track tires and I can't wait to try them out!

OK here are a few photo's from yesterdays Waterford track event.
The car held up really well. After driving on R componds for the
fist time I will never use anything else on the track. Totally
different experiance. The car is so much easier to feel. Perhaps
this is because you get more feed back as you push the car harder.

Another project to add to the list will be stiffer springs. Not sure what
the spring lbs rate is on the current H&R's. The car feels real tight now
on the street. Infact its hard to push the front end down. However, once
on the track with the R's it feels like it could be tighter.

Really cool, I forgot the evnet was yesterday or I would have gone as a spectator.
What happened to the turn signal?
is that for extra air intake?
what about a bigger sway bar to avoid the body roll, that usually seems like a good way to go and the car will still be street driveable without loosing all the nuts and bolts on the MI roads.

I lost it on the first session...High G loads I think were the cause LOL.
Your right about the air intake. The cone filter sits right behind that
lens.

As far as the swaybar . . . I've already done that with a 2 bennett adjustable.
It works great on the street, but not stiff enough for the track. I still don't
understand how one does the 4000 front swaybar conversion on this thing? I've
looked into it, I've tried it, I've asked about it, but know one can show me how
it's really done. I think its a myth.

WOW . . . . It 's been a year so it's time for an update on Project 20VQTRO ? ? ?

New Calibers . . . One of the rebuilt from last year froze . . . so I replaced both . . .

Stainless brake lines . . .

New pads . . .

New/used exhaust. F-er still leaks, but it sounds GREAT ! ! !

Oil Cooler . . . This should be a big deal for the next track event. Last year at ACNA's track day I was running the oil temps into the red zone. Thanks to Mr. Lapp's crib notes this was an easy inexpensive mod that I will share notes on if anyone is interested . . .

Stainless subframe mounts . . . Gone . . seriously . . . The passenger side vibrated out ? ? ? WTF ? I replaced them with OEM.

New green strut mounts . . .  The old "performance" ones crushed . . . A known issue on these old Coupes . . .  Now I know ! ! ! F-ER ! ! ! We will see how these work.

4 NEW track stickies in the garage . .

Fixed back seats and 6pnt harness . . . . Ok this was the F*IC*nG nut buster . . .  Took a LONG freaking time to sort and find a fabricator . . . . right price . . . etc. I'll post pics tomorrow . . .

So now that the Coupe is back on the road (a little late in the season . . . ) I've got only 2 events planned for it so far . . .

One LAPP of Ohio Rally . . .

and

Grattan in the fall.

Why so few?  I can afford to break anymore crap this season ! ! ! !

Motor with a vengeance------------>

Saw the car last Sunday, looks real good and the fabrication for the racing seat is wicked. That is some well done professional work!

The fabrication of the seat mounts was done by Ralph Provits of V2 Motorsports. He did a GREAT JOB. If anyone needs fabrication work done I highly recommend him . . .

Long time no post . . . .

Well here goes . . .

I managed to get the car out on the track for 2 events this year. One day at Waterford hills . . .

The other was a 2 day event at Grattan . . . Well one day for me LOL !!!!

Looks like I have a case of low compression and REALLY low compression. 4 Cylinders were at about 10psi under the recommended numbers. The 5th cylinder was at 0 . . . .

Yep the daydreaming door of options has just reopened once again . . . Hummm what to do.

More to come ! ! !

Wow sorry to hear that Ed, the car was running sick on the way back, hard to believe you had no compression on 1 cylinder.
Personnally I would avoid the 20Vturbo route, it is long, expensive and you still have a 20 years old nose heavy car, That you would outdrive pretty fast at the track, wanting something better.
Been there, done that, bought the Tshirt and would never do it again!
