OK it's time to update the progress of the 20VQTRO....

Since the last post the Coupes exhaust was getting louder and louder. Sounded great and I was trying to overlook the obvious....However it all came to an end as I noticed myself getting sleepy driving for long periods of time.  :drunken_smilie: :drunken_smilie: :drunken_smilie: It could only mean one thing. Exhaust leak from the downpipe...FVCK! At the time it was to cold and nasty to get under the car. Plus I had that big box of stuff from 034. SOOO it was the perfect time to send 20VQTRO off to GMW. Long story short.....New high density motor mounts, transmission mounts, and Delrin A-arm bushings. Yeah! While the car was there Stefan noticed that the oil/crank case breather line had compressed itself and needed to be replaced as well as a vac line that came off the throttle body. Errr this vac line was what kept the car there for like 4 weeks. Stefan really helped me out with a few road blocks. Yes GMW rocks! Anyway, I can't tell you how great this car corners now! Everything is so tight. I am still riding on my winter 15"s with a profile of like 65. This car is going to be a razor when I get the 17" 45s back on. As far as the motor/transmission mounts went I was a little nervous putting in the high density mounts. However they made the car feel much more raw. There is minimal slop and I feel really connected to the car. Do these mods if you own an 90 series Audi.

Next steps come this weekend...First 034 injectors. Then the summer 17"s go back on with the addition of H&R wheel spacers. Yes I know...."wheel spacers are never the right answer"...However, I am willing to give it another try. Because wheel choices are slim for 108s I had to choose from a selection of Ford Focus wheels. That left me with like a 42 offset from a 37. My fingers are crossed to find a nice little package from UPS tomorrow. Thats it....more to come! Cheers- :P :P

This one was taken about a year ago when I got my new wheels. The car looks about the same today. However, I will take some new images as the weather gets nicer. Enjoy.

Thanks guys!

So the weekend went well. I put in the 034 7A EFI injectors. This job was a snap. Took only 45min or so. Easy to get at everything and I had great instructions from:

http://www.audiworld.com/tech/content_eng83.html

Also see:

http://www.034motorsport.com/product_info.php?products_id=329

OK so 300+ smackers for injectors...Yeah. So if I was going to put out that much cash for injectors I might as well go with a new Oxygen sensor. This I thought was smart only because I was this deep into the project and I don't know how old the one on the car was. The ORIGINAL PART# is Bosch P/N 13957. Or you can go with Bosch P/N 13913. This last is for some type of Ford. The only reason to go with that later is that it cost like 40 bucks and you can find the it any Auto Zone. The trade off with the Ford Oxs. is that you will have to splice wires using the original plug connection. This all sounded really ghetto to me so I spent half a day tracking down and 150 bucks on the OEM Bosch sensor. It was total plug and play. The hardest part was freeing up the old one from the down pipe. Again LOTS of WD40 the night before made it a lot easier.

See this link for more specifics:

http://www.20v.org/engprob.htm#o2

Results....Well it idles as smooth as glass! Which is funny because I just had those stiffer motor and trans mounts put in. The idle vibration is almost gone. Power seems to be the same, however the torque band feels really linear and smooth through the rev band. That makes me happy!

The oxs was the biggest change. First the car does not smell as rich at idle. Second I was only getting like 13 mpg. I noticed this on my last fill up. Remember I haven't been driving the Quattro Coupe that much, because its been at GMW. Driving the TT for last four weeks in comparision was like rolling around in a Prius. Thats what set the alarm bells off. So....13mpg humm I should do better then that now? I'll be watching the fuel consumption and I'll post results after the first tank re-fill.

The 20mm H&R wheel spacers never came in this weekend. So I am still on winter wheels. I'll try and get that done later this week if time permits. Whats next? Well like I said it never ends. I'll come up with something....soon. Keep posted!

Hope this write up wasn't to choppy I was doing like three other tasks at the same time. I'll edit later.
cheers-

I've got a spare 7A head if you need it.

I breifly mentioned that I had some parts that I wasn't going to use on my Coupe left. You wouldn't still be interested in all of the B4 hood stuff would you? Its in good shape but its green...

As it stands now I am in a holding pattern until I get past this little side track. I should be getting some quotes in the next few days to help pick a direction. I kinda see this as my opportunity to do some tweaks. Port and polish, deck the head, bigger valves....etc. I've already bought a "Bag of Snakes" header from Force 5. That should be here I hope tomorrow. I'll keep you posted. BTW track day is May 20th @ Waterford Hills. Looks like the Coupe will be out of commission so instead I'll be driving the TT. You will have to drive up at lunch to check it out.

Yep sold it to Bufkin. The guy who campaign's one of Bruno's old rally cars. Which is funny because at some point that engine had made it through Bruno's shop. Its all a circle... Also, lots and lots of time and cash would have to go into that 20VT swap.  Not worth it when new cars on the lot already have 300 plus HP, AC and a warranty. See thread below for the details.
