First, this really is a 2-part thread.
I want to let everyone know that I have to give thanks to Stefan for helping out a fellow mca'er. I was in need of a crank tool and he came through for me.
That said, I needed the crank tool to do the timing belt/water pump and pulley on one of the 2 ur-q's I'm restoring. Seems pretty normal right, old car, high miles, bad tensioner... this is where one says WTF....
While using the factory tools with the appropriate leverage to generate 258 ft/lbs to remove the crankshaft bolt, the front motor mount (which the crank tool locates one) breaks off the block.
Interesting you say? it wasn't the mount, the bosses cast into the block that the mount bolts to, broke right off the block.................
Gets better, after more research and more removal of accessories, I found that 3 of the 5 the bosses for the ac compressor had also been broken off and there were signs of prior attempts to weld them back on.
Well, at least there is one solution, my timing belt change has now turned into an engine swap.......
God love the old cars.
Peace,
