Maintenance this weekend
« on: August 29, 2007, 04:25:17 PM »
So I'll be doing some maintenance this weekend.......I hope.....including an oil change.

Question:  Where do I pick up some Elf Oil??

Also,
I'll need a new oil filter, I want to replace the oil cap gasket, and was also thinking about picking up a spare coil pack or two.

I'ver heard some of the VW cars use the same parts and they sell for less money at the dealership.  Anybody know of the VW equivalent part numbers for any of these?

Any help is appreciated.

-d

Edit: Nevermind on the coilpack part number, found it on AZ (06B 905 115 R) - Apparently the same for both VW and Audi

OK, back on topic,

How do you access the high mount stop light - the one in the rear window (from the trunk or do I get at it from the rear deck?)

I don't think it's too hard, I've had mine off a few times.   I'm not sure if you have to slide the whole package self out of not.  I think there's a couple screws, and then you fold down the rear seats to access the edge of the tray.   I think there are some pushpins or something to remove.    Then you slide the tray forward and it will pop out.

^^^^^^^^^ Thanks peanut gallery.

Seriously though I get a center brake light warning now and again.  Not sure if its the buld or an electrical gremlin, but I want to fix it.  I'm hoping a bulb change does the trick.

Couple of notes.....

Elf is carried at S&G - approximately $25 for 5L.

I got the filter at the dealership along with the coil pack and a new diverter valve.

Comparing prices at S&G

Dealership was abou $8 cheaper on the coil
Oil filter price was pretty much the same at $8.50-ish
S&G was about $16 cheaper on the DV but they don't stock it.

I was actually pretty impressed that the dealerships prices were "competive" keeping in mind I was comparing them to S&G, which I believe are typically a little on the high side.
