We would be willing to donate a 1990 Audi V8 Quattro for this event.

The good:
We already have the car here
it runs (with a little work) needs power steering lines, ac comp, belt, fuel filter, distributor (have all those)
it drives (with more work) needs front struts installed, a rear diff installed (have those)
we have 90% of the parts to make it runable

The bad:
It needs alot of wrench time to get it back going (a solid weekend) as it is partially stripped
I don't have the time to do all the wrenching myself, I will need help.

this will make the monetary requirements much easier to deal with.
Hopefully even if we don't use this car we can get something going.

So the car has to be $500 - but that includes any money we dump into it?

Hmmm... I found a few CRX Si's around...

You are allowed to upgrade any safety items at no cost to the $500.  So don't include upgrades to brakes, tires, wheels, seatbelts, cage, seat, etc...

Ya know, that's not that far off.............
after all, it was built by audi with mercedes parts....
heck, the only things we need are an engine that won't break and a gear box too....
oh hell. I sold my last p-car cause of the cost of repair. )_:

let's find an old fbody gm product, parts are available, roll cages are cheap and virtually anybody knows how to wrench on it.

ideas?

Well the only reason I suggested an old CRX or Civic or something along those lines was that:

-lightweight
-reliable
-easy to wrench on
-CHEAP parts-o-plenty (the largest import aftermarket is prob. for honda cars) and see below
-Easy to upgrade with low cost meaning, want big brakes? Get some from a junker Acura Integra... same goes for motor and most suspension bits.

The bad:
-the torqueless wonder.  Junkyard turbo setup maybe?  :P

I was also thinking about an old turbo brick (volvo) but the cost might rule that out.  Something you can boost the piss out of would be sweet for more powah!
