Non-Audi Tech Question
« on: June 18, 2007, 02:28:15 PM »
Can anyone on here SWAG what a timing belt and clutch job would run on a 1985 Porsche 944?  Just looking for some good educated guesses.  Thanks.

Joe

I owned an 1988 944T (951).

Clutch Job:
Parts is nothing compared to labor; Porsche rates the job at 21-23 hours.  It's a heck of a job which involved dropping the exhaust, rear diff/trans (transaxle), torque tube, and then the bell housing.  21 hours @ $85-100/hour, you do the math.

Parts from Lindsey Racing (highly respected), $700.

Timing Belt:
Same story.  Probably $100-200 in parts and several hours of labor.  But once you do the math on the clutch job the timing belt is a throw-in.

If you can do the labor yourself and have a long weekend to do it, that's by FAR cheaper.  Having a shop do both will probably cost you north of $3000.

There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche. - Anonymous
