1986 4000 turbo quattro
« on: December 10, 2006, 04:37:17 PM »
Continuing thread on this hoss.  Car has been running well since the swap was completed back in October of 2005.
Whats next you may ask?
The next step is more funding!  Ive had to sell off my mint door panels for cash, so I stuck the old stock red leather door panels back on.  I also sold my 16' Borbet Type B summer wheels.  The stock 14' Ronal wheels will be refinished in their stock Alpine White and installed when cash becomes available.  Also actively searching for original red leather front seats.
As far as mechanical stuff goes, EFI will be the next modification done under the hood.  I have done a bit of research on 034EFI and have discussed MegaSquirt with a few who have gone that route.  Either way, EFI is going to happen, just unsure which route Im going to take.  Along with EFI comes alot of wiring, diagrams, soldering, connecting, yadda yadda bleh blah.  Ive been there with the motor swap, but adding a different fuel AND spark program is going to be a task.  I figure I may get another daily driver while I sort it out.  EFI is a long way off though.

This car IS my daily driver and my only car.  It provides solid daily transportation while offering great performance for a car with mechanics of its age.  The car itself has a very mild QLCC chipped ECU, 2BAR wastegate spring, Urq intercooler, downpipe, and igloo to make things more efficient and work properly.  Currently it puts out 15psi of boost through a 2.5' custom exhaust with a single muffler out back, and Magnaflow tips.  A video will be coming soon.  The car is a hoot around town, and especially on the highway, where boost comes on almost instantaneously!

More updates will come, along with pictures as the progress continues.  I encourage those who have any questions about the swap, the car, any 4000/CGT questions to please ask :)

your car makes me jealous!  I'm actually thinking of 034EFI before I go turbo.  That way I can have a basis to work off of cause I don't want CIS in my car.  Megasquirt is cool but the guys at 034 really seem to have a lot going on for them and the resources to make it a bunch easier.  Just means I have to save up longer.

I think you should buy a pearl white coupe for a DD...I just happen to know of one up for sale in the spring  :)

Ohhh trust me, a Peal Coupe Quattro is the only CQ I want.  Funds are a problem though, which sucks!

Im on the fence with 034 or MS.  I have more research and people to talk with about this.

CIS is nice when it works properly.  Ive only had a few issues.  One recent one when I was doing high boost runs on the highway, I must have created a huge vac or boost leak.  The car stalled out later that night and wouldnt restart.  Had to leave it sit overnight and nursed it home.  Refitted all the boost tubing and all is well.

The car eats up Integras and stock Audi V8's!  (My only 2 kills so far)

Awesome to read about the work so far.
I'd have to give the 034 team a nod - they seem to have well thought out implementation.

Castle - That's a good idea to start with the 034EFI system, get your fuel delivery nailed down before strapping on that turbo.

Damn all this talk makes me jealous :  )

The 10vt swap was very easy and straightforward, definately a perfect swap for a beginner!  There were a few quirks to get the car going, but I had alot of help over the phone and in person at one point.

I'll post up pictures, videos, and other stuff at some point.  I just want some damn snow to plow through :D

Wooohoooo!  Had to take a trip to Indianapolis yesterday for a job interview.  This is the first time Ive driven the car a decent distance since I slapped a new O2 on the downpipe and fixed the mixture.  I was rewarded with 26mpg with 90% of that highway.  I normally get around 17-20 in town, so getting THAT mileage was super!  Gawd I love just mashing the gas at 70mph and seeing the boost gauge fly up to around 15psi :P
I love this car!!

Holy crap I havnt updated this for a while.  Not tooooo much has happened since before xmas.  Car has been dead reliable as far as getting me from point A to B.  Went to an Audi meet in Dayton Ohio in late December, saw some enthusiasts there (Steve made me go).  That was alot of fun, but the car developed a whine and scary drivetrain noise.  Figured it was the center support bearing for the driveshaft.  Theres a video of it on google somewhere.  I bought a replacement bearing (BMW piece) but the noise has disappeared, so I havnt done anythign with it.  Also had a pecky coolant sensor code, but I swapped wires on the coolant sensors, and no more codes!

Hmmm, what else is new.  I scored another set of red leather door panels and some red leather skins from a back seat.  Thinking about going to an upholstery shop and seeing if they can do anything to fit them onto the front seats.  Ideally Id get new foams up front, but those are pricey.  Also, Im looking to get the stock Ronals refinished in the stock Alpine White.  I sold my Borbets a while back and have decided to go with the stock, super sleeper look :)

I have another set of injector lines coming my way.  I need to tidy those bad boys up.  The car hasnt been washed in months, rust is forming again, so I need to order more touchup paint from Audi and address that too.  Other than that, the car has been perfect.  Getting good mileage and still shocking people who try to pass me by passing them :D

I do love Speedlines, maybe I could use them for winter wheels :D

I really wanna get the car appearing stock again (minus the motor), so I gotta get the stock wheels refinished.

Maybe in the summer I'll have cash for different winter wheels, I HATE the 90 BBS wheels I have.

I've got a set of cabrio 15" I'd get rid of for cheap.  You can see the wheels here...
